How does the Internet Influence Real World Referrals for Contractors?

If you are a successful you contractor you are so because people were so happy with the job you did that they referred you.  In the old days a satisfied client might tell their friend, “You have to call Joe, we were so happy with our new kitchen, and his crew was awesome. Here, let me give you his number.”  Well nowadays a client is just as likely to say “Joe was awesome, so was his crew, just Google him and call him about your new kitchen.”

Insert the internet.  What is a referred client going to think when they search for you online?  Are they going to find your website and say, “Wow, my friend was right, this contractor looks really good, let me call him right now!”  Or, are they going to say, “I wonder if he is still in business?”

An old website, or no website, and outdated information might be enough of a distraction for 2-3 referrals out of 10 to not call you when they’re searching for you information online.  A new website and a updated info online can start the process of the client getting comfortable with you and really wanting to do business with you – which, bottom line, means you have more flexibility to increase your prices and or your job volume.
